Exhibiting As An Artist With A Disability Or Neurodivergence: What To Expect And How We Make It Work

The traditional exhibition process was designed around one kind of artist: someone who can travel freely, stand in a loud room for four hours, handle unpredictable logistics and chase people for information. That excludes a lot of brilliant artists. This guide is about how exhibiting with Streeters Gallery and The Holy Art actually works for artists who need it to work differently.

We are not going to pretend every venue is perfect. We will tell you exactly what we control and what to ask us about.

You do not have to attend

This is the single biggest difference from the old model. At Streeters and The Holy Art, your work is installed, lit, promoted and offered to buyers exactly the same whether you are in the room or not. Attendance at the opening is welcome but entirely optional. Many artists exhibit in cities they never visit.

If crowds, travel, sensory load or energy limits make attending hard, they do not make exhibiting hard.

You do not have to ship

Digital exhibition puts your work on screens at the venue and into the show's promotion from a high resolution file. No packing, no couriers, no customs, no collection. From £45 at Streeters. It carries a full exhibition credit and reaches the same audience.

Physical exhibition remains open to everyone, with shipping to the venue if delivering in person is not practical.

Everything is written down

Selected artists receive a confirmation with the venue, dates, deadlines, delivery details and fees in one document. Processes that rely on phone calls, in person meetings or remembering verbal instructions are a barrier for many artists. Ours runs on written confirmation, and you can ask for anything to be clarified in writing.

The application is deliberately simple

No artist statement in academic language. No CV. No interview. Images of your work, a short description in plain words, your details. If the standard application format presents a barrier for you, tell us and we will work with you on an alternative way to submit.

Physical access at venues

Venues vary between shows and cities, so we will not claim universal step free access. What we commit to: tell us your access needs when you are confirmed and we will give you accurate, specific information about the venue for your show, including entrances, steps, lifts, toilets, seating and quiet space, so you can decide about attending with real information rather than hoping.

For visitors, our accessibility statement is published on the Streeters website and we welcome feedback that helps us choose better venues.

Opening nights, honestly

Openings are social, busy and can be loud. If you attend, you are not required to stand by your work, network for hours or perform. Come for twenty minutes, or come on a quieter public day instead, when the room is calmer and the conversations are slower. Bring a friend or support person; guests are welcome. Step out whenever you need to.

Communication preferences

If you prefer email over calls, say so and we will keep it to email. If you need extra time to respond to confirmations or deadlines, tell us early and we will do what we can within the show's schedule. If you need information in a particular format, ask.

Money and predictability

Pricing is published and fixed: physical exhibition £120 for one work or £200 for two, digital £45, £85 or £115. No hidden fees, no surprise costs. Commission on sales is zero, so what a buyer pays is what you receive. For artists managing tight or variable budgets, predictability is access too.

Selling without the pressure

If a buyer wants your work, the gallery connects you directly. You can handle that conversation by email at your own pace. A studio on Mostra, the zero commission marketplace built by The Holy Art, lets collectors buy your work online without any live interaction at all.

What we ask from you

Tell us what you need. We cannot adjust for what we do not know, and there is no need to justify or explain a request. A short line in your application or after confirmation is enough.

Frequently asked questions

Can I exhibit if I cannot travel to the venue? Yes. Work can be shipped, or exhibited digitally from a file, and attendance is optional.

Is the application accessible? It is short and plain: images, a brief description and your details. Alternative ways to submit are available on request.

Are the venues wheelchair accessible? Venues vary by show. Selected artists receive accurate access details for their specific venue on request before deciding whether to attend.

Do I have to talk to buyers in person? No. Sales enquiries are passed to you and can be handled by email or through Mostra.

Is there any extra cost for access support? No.
